My name is Chelsea Avram and I have been working under the supervision of Lesley Hannell in her private practice since 2017. I graduated from Yorkville University with a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology.
This program is a 30-month academic and 8-month practicum-based program that prepares graduates for a career in the field of counselling psychology. The program is structured with courses to build the foundational competencies and practical skills needed to become professional counsellors, researchers, educators and psychotherapists. I also graduated from Wilfrid Laurier University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and Psychology and from the University of Reading in the UK with a Qualified Teaching degree.
I currently work with individuals, couples, families, and adolescents and I have clinical experience working with a wide range of clients of varying ages, stages, and genders. My focus has been helping clients manage stress, anxiety, depression, OCD and PTSD. I also have an appreciation for the complexities of family dynamics, blended families, and cross-cultural issues that can affect families and households today and really enjoy working with couples and families. I work hard to build a trusting and respectful relationship with my clients and take a compassionate and empathetic but straight-forward approach.
Before my work with Lesley Hannell, I was the Inclusion Coordinator and a classroom teacher for primary school children while working in an English-speaking British international private school in Bucharest, Romania for 8 years. I worked with the Educational Psychologist to design and implement their Extended Learning Program, aimed to improve the experience of children struggling with social, emotional and learning difficulties. The goal of the program was to assess, design, implement and review strategies for change to help children thrive both at school and home. Action plans were discussed in counselling session with parents and classroom teachers and group therapy sessions were held with children to work together to strengthen social, emotional and academic well-being.
I am excited to now be beginning my counselling career in private practice and I am thankful for the opportunity to train and work under the supervision and guidance of Lesley Hannell, Registered Psychologist. I look forward to meeting you and to hearing about the journey that brought you to therapy.
